Life is so uncertain and it has been such a trying, emotional, and isolating period for many of us. We are in the sixth month of lockdown and while we are working towards some level of normalcy, it has been a challenging period.
Often, the challenge of trying to distinguish between home life and work-life and motherhood and home responsibilities and being a wife, being a friend, being a daughter, being a sister, simply being... can all become so blurred and make us strip pieces off from ourselves. I know it all too well. This is why I wanted to speak about Sacral Healing.
Sacral Healing is the foundation from which Yoni Shakti Yoga is borne. It is about the power of the feminine source: the vagina. It seeks to explore the wonder, the divine, the powerful, and the sovereign calibre of our womanhood through practice and breath. Sacral healing is a focus on connecting the sacral energy with other energy wheels. It is about our essential and creative womanhood aligned with our wholeness. It is releasing guilt and shame from the oppressive cradle that society has birthed in us as women. It is about trusting our blood wisdom, liberating our bodies and minds into the fullness of our archetypal and ancestral womb knowledge.
Sacral healing brings us into the focus of the sacral chakra. It is considered as "one's own dwelling', as it brings attention to our sexual organs, pelvis, hips, and reproductive organs. It is responsible for our sexuality, sensuality, desire, creativity, imagination, livelihood, life energy, openness, and feelings of completeness. Through healing we begin to manage and control our inner desires, establish our confidence levels, our self-assuredness, our self-esteem, our decisiveness, and our internal power.
The connection and seeking to balance our sacral chakra will bring forth the capacity to feel as women; unashamed of our sexuality and desire without shame or guilt or societal pressure but house those feelings from a sense of control and strength and autonomy. It is about expanding our creativity without losing ourselves to delusion or disillusionment.
Every chakra is either overactive or under-active, impacting the physical and mental body in a certain way, respectively. When a chakra is in balance, one feels in control of one's actions and emotions, and we must strive for this balance. The balance in all the chakras can be achieved by understanding both, the physical body and the mental state of mind. Problems related to the reproductive organs, kidney, and bladder, are signs of imbalance in the second chakra - Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana).
An imbalance in Swadhisthana Chakra can result in depression, addictions (of any kind), unhealthy sex drive, menstrual disorders, excess weight gain, infertility issues, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, etc. When we have an imbalance in this chakra, we will also find it hard to adjust to changes in life (work, home, place, relationships), and are in constant denial. A lack of motivation, no control over emotions, feeling unimportant, lack of drive or creativity, feeling guilt and shame, and so forth are some of the signs of imbalance in this chakra.
Sacral or Swadishthana Chakra is an energy centre which is located 4 fingers (approximately 2 inches) below the belly button (the lower abdomen region). This region is said to be the centre of intimacy, pleasure, control of sex organs, creativity etc. Physically, this energy centre is responsible for the sense of taste, reproductive functions, all the fluids, blood circulation, kidneys, hips and pelvis and lower back. Sacral Chakra is associated with the water element and the seed sound vam (bija mantra). The energy of this chakra is said to be feminine or lunar.
Sacral healing is about trusting our womb wisdom; understanding that as women we carry the ancient wisdom and knowledge of the earth, interwoven into our nerves, into our skin. Our bodies cradling the foundation of humankind, beckoning secrets unknown. Our intuitive forces have proclaimed us many a name, denounced, subjugated and controlled but we continue to reaffirm for resilience, chaos and power is at our source: our Feminine Source. We are essential beings. Sacral healing honours our sacredness. You are sacred. You are Essential.
Celebrate the goddess within you. Make space for yourself. Know you are so much more than enough. I share an affirmation poem with you I wrote to honour my own womanity and I pray it fills your spirit with your own brilliant light. Sisters, you are purposeful. Your existence is essential to all womanity. We need your brilliant light to heal the world.
