Let Go of the MAYhem

This past month has proven disruptive, challenging, disconcerting, confusing and painstakingly isolating.

We are still so unsure of many things. We are trying to keep ourselves together, maintain our homes, reassure our families, offer kindness, adapt to changes and trying to simply figure out what is our next step.

I have chosen the theme 'Let Go of the MAYhem' because amidst all the MAYhem as women and human beings, we still try to fix things, to extend our own capacity for the mental and emotional safety of others and often we forget to take heed to our own needs. We take on the burdens from all that lies externally and place them within ourselves and slowly we try to neatly pack each struggle, each pain, each new offering, each change, each anxious moment within ourselves in hope of finding some measure of control. Let Go. Let Be.

In yogic practice it is important to release the need to over-control our situations. When we do this, we create pain and impatience within ourselves. Our desire to control EVERYTHING stems from our desire for personal power. But there are so many beautiful ways to expand our personal power without delving into the realm of ego and ending up with a controlling issue. Let us control our goals, our capacity to be spacious and open, our behaviour, our words, our sentiments, our gifting of self, our thoughts, our time, our measure of work, our reputation and our finances.

Faith is powerful and miraculous and there is mercy in moving with purpose and intention and there is grace in finding solace in the unknown.

Let us journey into this month attempting to release over-control. Let us try each day to find comfort in the unpredictability of life and be gracious and knowledgeable about the workings of change. Let us be kind and hopeful, offering support and meditating the chaos away. Let us let go of the mayhem.

“You must learn to get in touch with the innermost essence of your being. This true essence is beyond the ego. It is fearless; it is free; it is immune to criticism; it does not fear any challenge. It is beneath no one, superior to no one, and full of magic, mystery, and enchantment.”
